I had a dream that I was put in charge of the injured bird exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is so fitting as I live here now. I was wandering around amongst the birds checking their wings and ensuring that the volunteers were adhering to the nutritional standards while feeding each bird when I noticed a cat out of the corner of my eye running off with a plover in it’s mouth. The bird was squawking yet it seemed more annoyed than fearful.
I managed to catch up with the cat and wrangle the bird out of it’s mouth sending it limping off towards the exhibit again when I realized that the cat was not acting alone. In fact there were several cats of all different types in and around the exhibit. Most were lounging passively but at least two seemed to be actively stalking the largely defenseless shorebirds. I knew what I had to do. My work was cut out for me. I had to herd. these. cats.
